Gwen Carden. Accomplished Market Research Specialist and Award-Winning Journalist.

Since 2001, Gwen Carden has applied her impressive range of skills to include recruiting hard-to-find respondents for qualitative market research projects, as well as conducting one-on-one market research interviews. Many of her projects have involved physicians and patients who met certain criteria, on behalf of major pharmaceutical companies, while others have been business- or consumer-oriented. Her excellent research and telephone skills, developed from her public relations and journalism experience, have made her sought-after by a range of market research companies spanning the U.S.

Earlier in her career, after graduating with honors from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a specialty in public relations, Gwen Carden was very active in the public relations and journalism arenas.

Public Relations

Gwen Carden’s public relations experience encompasses activities in both Martin and Palm Beach Counties. She served as a public relations consultant for the debut of the Treasure Coast Brewing Company and as the public relations representative for local cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Robert Cooper. She has provided articles and brochure copy as well as public relations consulting to a wide range of businesses from the fields of real estate to consumer goods and non-profit organizations. One of her earliest public relations positions was a four-year stint as Public Information Director for the American Heart Association in Palm Beach County where she began honing her media and speechmaking skills. During that time she won an Addy Award for an anti-smoking campaign called “Ash or Cash” that involved asking local merchants to put together a window display of their goods equal to the annual expenditure on cigarettes of the average smoker. Gwen Carden has given numerous speeches on behalf of local and national causes, as well as during the two years she was a member of Toastmaster’s International in Stuart, Florida. She has appeared several times on local television in conjunction with her public relations duties.

Journalism

Gwen Carden’s writing credits include Family Circle magazine, a year-long articles contract with the New York Times Syndicate for the international distribution of her feature articles, and a Silver Award from the Florida Magazine Association for an article she wrote on the redevelopment of Downtown Stuart for Palm Beach Illustrated Magazine. Several thousand of her stories have been published locally, nationally and internationally, and include a wide range of subjects from consumer issues to medical, human interest, celebrity and how-to’s. Gwen has become expert over the years at identifying interesting angles on otherwise mundane topics and turning them into crisp, enjoyable and informative articles as well as creative public relations opportunities.

Silver medal winner: Florida Magazine Association for “The Stuart Story,” published in Palm Beach Illustrated Magazine in 2000.

One of the writers featured in the book Writers At Work: Learn the Success Secrets of 66 Established Freelance Writers by Dana Cassell.

An article Gwen wrote for Family Circle on the mother of a deaf-blind child was included in a college writing course textbook called Cultures: Diversity in Reading and Writing by Emily Thiroux (Prentice Hall). This same article was also featured in a course book used in the Academic English Program at San Jose University.

Another article Gwen wrote, a quiz on listening skills which was syndicated by the New York Times Syndicate, has been included in the college textbook Business Communication. (Elm Street Publishing).
